Physical properties of Inconel 718 Wire

The inconel 718 wire is easily machined though its large potential and toughening features are considered in choosing and using the complete tools, layout, operation rate and coolant. The machining process in the age hardening condition makes the alloy better and chip process on the chip breaker techniques are enhanced. Using the annealed wire it ensures the better machining and extended tool performance period.

The details on the lowest bending diameter of the hot treated and annealed inconel 718 strip are shown in the below table. To determine the diameter of wire, it is evaluated when it qualifies the bending test of 180 degree when it top layer is not cracked. Due to the influence of different surface environments and heat processing on the bending character, the assurance of bends can not be provided. Several substances can never be curved in the states of the tight curves as compare to those preferred in the below table where the first curve is not strict.

The special class of inconel 718 wire is created to accomplish the super plastic production process that is possible by the certain inconel alloys. This wire is denoted as Inconel 718 SPF that is created by following the SAE AMS 5950 size to fulfill the desired requirements.

The high potential of inconel 718 alloy wire makes it widely resistant to deformation as compare to other substances in the hot processing. The competitive resistance of alloy by the pressure created in the rolled hole at cutback of 20% is shown in the below table. The hot processing is done at the temperatures between 1650oF to 2050oF. In the final processing, inconel 718 wire is processed symmetrically with the uniform reduction in the temperature and cut back in light at the temperature range between 1650oF to 1750oF. This technique is essential to provide the ductility in the stress cracking operations upon annealing and aging the wire. During heating the wire for hot processing, it is warmed at temperature limit for a short period to guarantee the symmetry and retrieved. In order to discard the duplex grain structure, wire should have equal reductions.

The end reduction of 20% at least is utilized for open die operation and at least 10% for the closed die operation. The components are air cooled after the hot processing instead of water cooling. During the heat processing an excessive heating must be avoided due to heat trap. Also the components should be heated again after any section is cooled down at temperature less than 1650oF.
