Nichrome Alloy Basket

Nichrome basket is corrosion resistant, and has a high melting point of about 1400 °C (2552 °F). Nichromehas very good resistance to oxidation at high temperatures.

Nichrome baskets have many advantages, such as thermal stability, mechanical character, shockproof ability in thermal state and anti-oxidization. For heating, the basket must be stable in air when hot.

Nichrome basket forms a protective layer of chromium oxide. Due to Nichrome basket's relatively high resistance to oxidation at high temperatures, it is widely used in heat-treating processes in the chemical, mechanical, metallurgical and defense industries, such as toasters, vacuum coating. Ni-Cr alloys join all the necessary properties for high temperature applications: resistance to oxidation (they are not sensitive to aggressions of humid air), low embrittlement at high temperature, good plasticity, good resistance to creeping (more important than ferritic alloys) which is important during conception of a resistance presenting big heights of waves. Maximal temperature recommended: 1922 / 2012 °F in order to obtain a reasonable life time of the elements.

Nichrome baskets come in various nichrome materials. They include Cr20Ni80, Cr30Ni70, Cr15Ni60, Cr20Ni35 and Cr20Ni30. Baskets in these materials have special industrial or family applications because of the alloy's properties. It is important to determine the purpose and choose the right material regarding to the special chemical and physical environment and application that the basket will work in.
