Incoloy 800H Wire
Incoloy 800H/HT alloy wire was intended for high temperature structural applications. The nickel content makes the alloys highly resistant to both chloride stress-corrosion cracking and to embrittlement from precipitation of sigma phase. The general corrosion resistance is excellent. In the solution annealed condition, alloys 800H and 800HT wire have superior creep and stress rupture properties.
Incoloy 800 wireis primarily used in applications with temperatures up to 1100° F, where alloys 800H and 800HT are normally used in temperatures above 1100° F where resistance to creep and rupture is required. The chemical balance allows the nickel steel alloy to exhibit excellent resistance to carburization, oxidation and nitriding atmospheres.
Incoloy 800HT will not become embrittled even after long periods of usage in the 1200-1600°F range where many stainless steels become brittle. Excellent cold forming characteristics typically associated with the nickel-chromium alloys are exhibited with 800HT wire. When cold formed extensively the grain size produces a visibly undulated surface called "orange peel". Incoloy 800HT wire can be welded by the common techniques used on stainless steels.
Incoloy 800H wire Corrosion resistance:
Incoloy 800H wire cannot be corroded in many kinds of media. Its higher nickel content made it have good stress corrosion resistance cracking properties in the water corrosion condition. High chromium content made it better resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion cracking. This alloy can resist nitric acid and organic acid, but it is not so fine in the sulfuric acid and hydrochloric acid. 800H have good corrosion resistance to both oxidation and non-oxidizing salt, but maybe a little pitting in halide, and also excellent properties in the mixture of water, smoke, steam, air and carbon dioxide.
The mechanical properties of Incoloy 800H and 800HT wire:
The mechanical properties of Incoloy 800H and 800HT, combined with their resistance to high temperature corrosion, make these alloys exceptionally useful for many applications involving long-term exposure to elevated temperatures and corrosive atmospheres.
1: Hydrocarbon processing industry: steam/hydrocarbon reforming for catalyst tubing, convection tubing, pigtails, outlet manifolds, and quenching-system piping;
2: Ethylene production for both convection and cracking tubes, and pigtails;
3: Oxy-alcohol production for tubing in hydrogenation heaters;
4: In hydrodealkylation units for heater tubing;
5: In the production of vinyl chloride monomer for cracking tubes, return bends and inlet and outlet flanges.
6: Industrial heating is another area of wide usage for both incoloy 800H and 800HT. In various types of heat-treating furnaces, these alloys are used for radiant tubes, muffles, retorts, and assorted furnace fixtures.
The major differences between alloys 800, 800H and 800HT are mechanical properties. In general, alloy 800 has higher mechanical properties at room temperature and during short-time exposure to elevated temperatures, whereas alloys 800H and 800HT have superior creep and rupture strength during extended high temperature exposure. The outstanding characteristics of both incoloy 800H and 800HT are their high creep and rupture strengths.
